Well on Saturday night I was in St. Petersburg, Florida to watch the Boston Red Sox take on their kryptonian-nemesis in recent times, the Tampa Bay Rays. I was fortunate enough to have nabbed 2 front row seats along the third baseline off of StubHub.com and it was worth every penny for the up-close and personal experience. I feel compelled to mention StubHub, despite the fact that Robert Kraft despises them, because my girlfriend and I ran into two other Red Sox couples that were complaining about not being able to get better seats whenever they shop through Ticketmaster. StubHub offers season ticket holders the chance to sell their tickets to games they will not be able to attend at a slight increase over face value. I've been able to get front row seats to Red Sox games and the ACC Championship, as well as luxury box seats to a Bruins game.

Regardless of how good or bad the pitching is, the Dodgers should win the West based solely on the potency of their lineup and the lack of serious competition from the remaining three teams in the division not named Arizona. After finishing in the top 10 of the Most Valuable Player voting nine times in his 16-year career, Manny is a favorite to finish at the top of that list in ’09.

I started this blog more or less because I'm tired of the way that sports talk in Boston works. There are a few places where rational discussion takes place, such as Sons of Sam Horn, but for the most part, sports talk is relegated to the know nothing variety of Mike Adams, the "see who can yell at the callers the loudest" style of WEEI's "The Big Show", or the eminently un-inclusive style of shows like New England Sports Tonight in which the beat writer talks at the viewer for 5 minutes or so.

The Boston Celtics have definitely proven their worth as a championship team. Their cinderella story has came true the previous season and now comes the hard part. It's time to defend and it's time to prove that they are deserving to be called NBA Champions. Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett will have their hands full this season as many teams have improved their line-ups.

Many may doubt a repeat from the Boston Celtics due to the trades made out in the Eastern Conference. Definitely, many teams have improved with regards to their line-up. You have Toronto with two imposing big men, then you also have Philadelphia adding up Elton Brand. The Eastern Conference has beefed up for sure but as the saying goes, "Don't ever underestimate the heart of a champion."

Then there's the 37 year-old Doug Mirabelli, The Boston Red Sox back up catcher.  The Sanfrancisco Giants selected him out of Witchital State in 1992.  He was touted as a good catcher with some pop in his bat.  Up until the last 3 years or so, I'd say he sort of fit that description.  He did a good job behind the plate with or without Wakerfield, and he took one out of the yard every now and then.  I'll painfully admit that we do still need him to catch Wake, especially after seeing what happened a couple of years ago when Mirabelli went to the San Diego Padres.
