The Land Of Enaychell(NHL)

The new NHL season has finally arrived and the Boston Bruins have been getting a lot more media interest following last season. The Bruins were a young, upstart team that over achieved and brought the first seed Canadiens to the brink of elimination in the first round of the playoffs in a seven game series, and suddenly, people in Boston care. All of this newfound interest that the Boston sports media has in the Bruins has caused me a dilemma though. Don’t get me wrong, I am very happy that the Bruins have generated some interest amongst the fans. They have been the forgotten team in this area in recent years. I mean, I have seen and heard more interest in the New England Revolution, or the Boston College Eagles over the last few years than in the Boston Bruins. I am glad to hear talk of the Bruins on my local sports radio channel again, but my dilemma is this, I had used the fact that no one in this area cared about hockey anymore to my advantage. I have been telling my kids a story of an ancient land called The Land of Enaychell (NHL).

The story took place in a world that mirrored our own. There were different "nations" called tribes. Each tribe wanted to be respected as the greatest tribe of them all, but the only way a tribe could garner such respect from the other tribes was to obtain a magical cup called The Lord’s Cup. There was so much fighting over who should have this cup that all the tribal leaders devised a method of distributing the cup amongst the tribes. They developed a new kind of war. A way of warring with each other that didn’t cause as much loss of life. They called this style of war Hockey. Each tribe developed an army of hockey players to represent them in the annual Tournament for the Cup.

You see, in my story, the greatest tribe of them all was The Mighty Bruins. I told of the many battles they had with the evil Montrealians. I told of the great heroes of the past like the great Bobbeaus Orrus, the powerful Camion Neelathor, the captain Rayshus Bourquem, and their chief Johnnius Bucykus. I told of the evil dictator that tried to topple the mighty Bruins from the inside out, Jeremious Jacobis. I told of how his true allegiance lied with money and how he didn’t really care about the cup, but only the money.

The problem is with all of the media coverage the Bruins are receiving now, my kids will learn that my story was a fabrication. Though the Bruins will always be the Big Bad Bruins in my heart, they are currently a young team that is not ready for a championship. With all of this media interest, my children will learn about this, so unless someone can suggest a new story that I can tell my children, I need the NHL to remain in the depths of boston sports obscurity. But since the Bruins over achieved last season, everyone expects them to do it again this year, so this interest should remain throughout this season. So what will I tell my children tonight when they ask for a bedtime story? Perhaps about an evil empire called the New Yorkus Yankeeans who, despite a magical endless check book, could not manage to field a decent team? I like the sound of that, this story brings a smile to my face just thinking about it. Never mind what I said before.....Go Bruins!
